WWII Anzio Tours
Private & Personalized WWII Tours with Dr. Danila Bracaglia
The Battle of Anzio was one of the most dramatic and complex operations of the Italian Campaign. For many Allied families, Anzio marks the moment when a father or grandfather first landed in Europe — and where months of intense fighting shaped the long road to Rome.
This website is dedicated exclusively to Anzio Landing Battlefield Tours, offering historically accurate, in-depth experiences led by a professional historian on the actual ground where the battle unfolded.
Unlike standard sightseeing tours, these visits focus on understanding the battlefield as it was in 1944 — reading the terrain, the distances, the positions, and the operational decisions that defined the Anzio campaign.
The Battle of Anzio was not confined to the landing beaches. Unlike D-Day in Normandy, the fighting extended far inland across a battlefield more than 20 kilometers wide, following the Allied advance toward Aprilia, Cisterna, Campoleone, and the Alban Hills.
Many tours remain close to the shoreline. These tours instead concentrate on the inland battlefields — where the fighting truly took place and where the campaign was decided.
I am Dr. Danila Bracaglia, a licensed guide and historian specializing in the Italian Campaign of WWII, with particular focus on Anzio, Monte Cassino, and the Allied advance to Rome.
Each Anzio tour is fully personalized. Some guests come to retrace the footsteps of a father or grandfather; others are deeply interested in strategy, terrain, and unit-level operations.
According to your interests, the tour can focus on specific units, sectors, dates, or engagements, using original maps, war diaries, aerial photographs, and archival sources to interpret the battlefield on site.
This is not a transportation-based sightseeing tour. The focus is on understanding where and how the fighting actually took place.
Tours are conducted using a comfortable Mercedes Vito, ideal for private groups and families.
Onboard multimedia screens allow the use of wartime maps, aerial photographs, unit movements, and period footage, helping connect what you see on the ground with historical documentation.
The vehicle supports the historical narrative — it does not replace it.
Many guests choose to extend their journey to follow the broader path of the Allied advance in Italy:
My mission is to honor the legacy of those who fought for the liberation of Italy, while making the history of the Italian Campaign accessible and meaningful to Allied families, scholars, and WWII enthusiasts.
